Cali ya está lista para recibir el evento mundial más relevante de su género y uno de los más grandes de Colombia: el Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo Sub-20 de 2022, a realizarse del lunes 1 al sábado 6 de agosto de este año en nuestra ciudad.

¿En qué consiste el Mundial de Atletismo Sub-20?
Este evento –organizado cada 2 años y a celebrarse una semana después del Mundial de Atletismo que se llevará a cabo en Eugene, Oregón (Estados Unidos)-, es la cantera más importante de las nuevas estrellas que dominarán las diferentes disciplinas que abarca el deporte más antiguo del mundo en rango de mayores y olímpicos.
Jóvenes de categoría junior entre 18 y 19 años de edad se disputan el medallero de la Federación Internacional de Atletismo para participar en el próximo Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo que se proyecta celebrar en Budapest para 2023, contienda a la que Colombia le apuesta para mejorar su posición que en su historia totaliza 6 medallas, entre una (1) de oro lograda por el gran Eider Arévalo (Marcha); dos (2) de plata (por Jhon Andrés Berrío en Salto Largo y Evelyn Rivera en Planos Femenino); y tres (3) de bronce (por Sandra Lorena Arenas en Marcha, Norma González en Planos y María Fernanda Murillo en Salto Alto).
¿Por qué se realiza en Cali?
La capital del Valle del Cauca viene siendo el escenario oficial de recientes competiciones de carácter internacional y de masivo calado, como los Juegos Panamericanos, la Copa América Femenina, los Juegos Bolivarianos y el Campeonato Mundial de Ciclismo en Pista, por nombrar sólo algunos pocos.
Por la gran envergadura de su infraestructura deportiva y turística, y con el esfuerzo de múltiples organismos entre iniciativas privadas e instituciones públicas que le han invertido, nuestra ciudad busca posicionarse como la Capital Deportiva de América a través de la iniciativa “Cali Ciudad Deportiva”, una acción impulsada por actores de estos gremios mixtos para apalancar la economía de la región y por supuesto catapultar el talento vallecaucano a través del deporte y otras actividades.
La mascota de esta competencia, Chonto “El Calidoso”, está inspirado en uno de nuestros íconos más conocidos, el Gato del Río del maestro Hernando Tejada, y el chontaduro, fruto típico de nuestra región.

¿Dónde verlo?
Esta justa deportiva podrás observarla y seguirla durante seis (6) días en nuestro magnífico Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero, en la carrera 36 # 5b-32 de Cali (a relativos 20 minutos de nuestro de nuestros Hoteles Spiwak dependiendo del tráfico), para todo lo relativo a este encuentro.
Si ya por otra parte eres curioso y te gusta mirar mucho más del tras bastidores de este espectáculo deportivo, en el Estadio de Atletismo Pedro Grajales (localizado en la Calle 9 con Carrera 37) se llevarán a cabo los entrenamientos y sesiones de calentamiento de todos los deportistas que participarán en las competencias.
¿Cómo conseguir las entradas del Mundial de Atletismo Sub-20?
Aunque en el pasado reciente el presidente de la Federación Colombiana de Atletismo, Ramiro Varela, anunció que las entradas al evento serían gratuitas, la página web de la World Athletics informa que el costo aproximado de las boletas será de 33.600 pesos, cuya venta será anunciada próximamente en los canales oficiales de esta organización como lo son sus cuentas de redes sociales (en Twitter, Facebook, Instagram y TikTok con el handle @worldathletics) y el portal de la Alcaldía de Cali, en concreto el de la Secretaría del Deporte y la Recreación y sus diversos social media con el mismo localizador (@secdeportecali).

¿Quiénes participarán?
A la fecha se han confirmado más de 150 países, pero aún se mantiene la esperanza en llegar a la meta de 175 naciones invitadas. Más de 1500 atletas, 135 jueces nacionales y 25 internacionales harán figura en este evento que contará con el apoyo de 135 voluntarios y más de 800 policías en labores de seguridad.
Las disciplinas que entre hombres y mujeres se jugarán en pista por la medalla son: 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 5 mil y 10 mil metros; 100, 110 y 400 metros de vallas; 3000 metros de obstáculos; 20 y 50 kilómetros de marcha.
En campo, se disputarán los saltos alto, con pértiga, largo y triple; los lanzamientos de peso, disco, martillo y jabalina; y el decatlón y heptatlón.
Por Colombia participarán nueve (9) atletas nuestros siendo éstos: Laura Patricia Martínez y María Alejandra Murillo en 100 metros planos; Estrella Marina Lobo y Natalia Linares en Salto Triple; Valentina Barrios en Jabalina; Melany Joibel Bolaños en 200 metros planos; Mariana Rincón Romero en 10 mil metros marcha; y nuestros vallunos Carlos Yesid Flórez y Natalia Pulido, en 100 metros planos y 10 mil metros marcha respectivamente.
Los grandes entrenadores que ayudarán a nuestros deportistas clasificados durante esta competencia son Martín Suárez, Zuleima Aramendiz, Dionisio Quintana, Sergio Hernández, Julio César Pulido, Daniel Yovany Castro y Amanda Arboleta, bajo el mando del profesor Nelson Gutiérrez.

Cali: the new world venue for U-20 athletics
Cali is ready to welcome the most relevant world event of its kind and one of the largest in Colombia: the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships, to be held from Monday, August 1 to Saturday, August 6 of this year in our city.

What is the World Athletics U20 Championships?
This biennial event is the most important source of extraction of new stars leading the disciplines of the oldest sport in the world, and it will be held a week after the World Championship in Athletics that will take place in Eugene, Oregon (United States).
Young people in junior categories between 18 and 19 years of age compete for a medal at the World Athletics’ table, looking forward to participate in the next match to be held at Budapest in 2023, a competition in which Colombia is betting on to improve its position of 6 medals through its history, being those: one (1) gold achieved by the great Eider Arévalo (March); two (2) silver (by Jhon Andrés Berrío in Long Jump and Evelyn Rivera in Women’s Track); and three (3) bronze (by Sandra Lorena Arenas in March, Norma González in Track and María Fernanda Murillo in High Jump).
Why is it held in Cali?
The capital of Valle del Cauca has been the official setting for recent international and massive competitions, such as the Pan American Games, the Women’s Copa América, the Bolivarian Games and the Tissot UCI Track Nations Cup, to name just a few.
Due to significant investments in its sports and tourism infrastructure, with the efforts of multiple organizations between private initiatives and public institutions, our city seeks to position itself as the Sports Capital of America through the “Cali Sports City” initiative, an strategy promoted by stakeholders from these mixed institutions to leverage the region’s economy and of course skyrocket Valle del Cauca’s talent through sports and other activities.
The mascot of this competition, Chonto “El Calidoso”, is inspired by one of our best-known icons, the Gato del Río by artist Hernando Tejada, and the chontaduro, a typical fruit of our region.

Where to see it?
You will be able to observe and follow this sports competition for six (6) days in our magnificent Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium, at the Carrera 36 # 5b-32 in Cali (about 20 minutes from our Spiwak Hotels depending on traffic), for everything regarding this championship.
On the other hand, if you are curious and like to look more on the behind the scenes of this sporting event, training and warm-up sessions will be held for all athletes at the Pedro Grajales Athletics Stadium (located at Calle 9 with Carrera 37).
How to get tickets for the Under-20 Athletics World Championships?
Although the president of the Colombian Athletics Federation, Ramiro Varela, declared that tickets to the event would be free, the World Athletics website reports tickets will cost around 33,600 Colombian pesos. Sales will be announced soon on the official channels of this organization, such as its social network accounts (on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok with the handle @worldathletics) and Cali’s Town Hall webpage, concretely that of the Secretary of Sports and Recreation and its diverse social media with the same locator (@secdeportecali).

Who will participate?

Men’s and women’s track disciplines in dispute for a medal are 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 5 thousand, and 10 thousand meters dash; 100, 110, and 400-meter hurdles; 3000-meters steeplechase; 20 and 50 kilometers walk.
In field disciplines, the high jump, pole vault, long jump, and triple jumps will be played; as well as shot put, discus throw, hammer throw, javelin throws, and last but not least: the decathlon and heptathlon.
Nine (9) Colombian athletes will represent us: Laura Patricia Martínez and María Alejandra Murillo in the 100-meters dash; Estrella Marina Lobo and Natalia Linares in Triple Jump; Valentina Barrios in Javelin Throw; Melany Joibel Bolaños in 200-meters; Mariana Rincón Romero in 10 thousand meters walk; and our valley’s Carlos Yesid Flórez and Natalia Pulido, in 100-meters dash and 10 thousand meters walk respectively.
The great coaches who will help our qualified athletes during this competition are Martín Suárez, Zuleima Aramendiz, Dionisio Quintana, Sergio Hernández, Julio César Pulido, Daniel Yovany Castro and Amanda Arboleta, under Professor Nelson Gutiérrez‘s command.
