Zoológico de Cali

Visitarlo en familia encabeza nuestra lista porque de entre los parques en Cali, éste no sólo es un deber nacional sino un favor para tu vida. Catalogado como el cuarto mejor zoológico de América Latina y orgullo de nuestra ciudad, sus bellas instalaciones prescindieron de las jaulas para crear amplios ambientes al aire libre que imitan el hábitat de la mayoría de las especies que albergan aquí… La recaudación que se obtiene de las visitas diarias a este magnífico lugar se destinan todas tanto  al rescate y cuidado de los animales en cautiverio como a la promoción y ejecución de diversos proyectos educacionales e investigativos para resguardar la biodiversidad colombiana. Este zoológico es administrado por una fundación que lleva su mismo nombre y, además de contar con la acreditación de la Association of Zoos and Acquariums, es una institución abocada a ofrecer las mejores actividades para niños en Cali a través de programas pedagógicos a  lo largo del año, como es el caso de las Zoovacaciones 2022, un plan que del 5 de julio al 5 de agosto busca sensibilizar a los niños respecto a los animales a través de juegos, películas y vivencias directas con las especies que ampara el zoológico, cuya información completa puedes conseguir aquí.

Paseo de la Aurora

De los mismos creadores de Delirio, este parque de entretenimiento es otro de esos planes para niños en Cali en los que tú tampoco podrás aburrirte… Porque son 7 mil metros cuadrados de esparcimiento, nostalgia y espectáculos divididos en cuatro cuadrantes temáticos que recrean diversas regiones del Valle del Cauca, en los que no pueden faltar los juegos infantiles, espacios para picnic, restaurantes, tascas, vivero, zona de melomanía, tienda y un fragrante bosque de eucaliptos… Artistas y actores en constante interacción con los visitantes se encargan de divertir a grandes y chicos con historias al compás de los ritmos de nuestro departamento,  en donde por supuesto la Salsa se erige como protagonista y heredera de la tradición que esta famosa carpa de bailarines profesionales sabe desplegar para asombro de su audiencia. Ruta Turística Mío Cable

Si tú y tu gente no son de por acá, ésta es una de esas actividades para familias en Cali que son, además de económicas, una anécdota inolvidable para los niños. Montar en el Mío Cable y alzarse por encima de las viviendas en un recorrido piano-piano hasta el tope de la ladera, viendo la ciudad desde el cielo; observando la vida que se desenvuelve abajo en cada vía sobre los que el teleférico pasa mientras mujeres tienden sábanas en los techos de sus casas y los niños juegan en las calles… Experimentar el cambio de estación y el paso entre torre y torre al tiempo que admiras esta maravilla de la ingeniería, todo en un perpetuo movimiento lineal de personas que entran y salen de tu cabina rumbo a cualquier parte. Este sistema de transporte aero suspendido tiene un recorrido de 2.08 km que puedes hacer en aproximadamente 14 minutos, pasando por las 4 etapas de este circuito que funciona en la Comuna 20: partiendo desde la terminal Cañaveralejo y haciendo un transcurso entre las estaciones Tierra Blanca, Lleras Camargo y Brisas de Mayo, dentro de las cuales puedes apreciar una muestra artística compuesta por fotos, ilustraciones, pinturas, murales y vitrales en torno a temas varios como el transporte, la música, la naturaleza, las creencias y costumbres de nuestra ciudad. Cristo Rey

En la punta del Cerro Los Cristales se alza el Monumento a Cristo Rey, uno de los símbolos más representativos de nuestra ciudad y mirador por excelencia de toda la urbe. Desde esta colina puedes no sólo admirar y tomarte la clásica foto en contrapicado con esta gran escultura del maestro italiano Alideo Tazzioli, sino también merendar un delicioso aborrajado o degustar un chocolate caliente, plan que te recomendamos hacer para horas de la tarde cuando el sol cae y la brisa refresca.  Aunque los caleños suelen subir a este lugar en bicicleta para hacer ejercicio, esta loma guarda para ti y tu familia diversas alternativas de recreación a disponibilidad del público como lo son las cabalgatas, la compra de artículos típicos de Cali, hacer canopy en El Borondo, visitar el maravilloso Mariposario Andoke  o para cerrar el día con broche de oro, cenar en alguna de las pizzerías que se encuentran en el descenso de la vía de retorno a la metrópoli…

Acuaparque de la caña

Cuando se está con niños, organizar las vacaciones de verano en Cali debe incluir una visita a este parque de agua que es una excelente alternativa para tus hijos.  Las principales atracciones de este sitio son el complejo de albercas que comprende piscina de olas, río lento, pileta infantil y tantas otras, alimentadas por un sistema de toboganes entre tradicionales y extremos que extienden la diversión a adultos por igual. Por si fuera poco, este muy querido espacio de la ciudad cuenta con juegos mecánicos, lago para remar, jardines, canchas y pistas, que estamos seguros no decepcionará a tus  pequeños.

Ecoparque Lago de Las Garzas

Otra de esas opciones que no cuestan nada valen mucho en la memoria de un niño y en los recuerdos familiares. Aunque pequeño, este hermoso humedal de 4.5 hectáreas queda al sur de la ciudad y comprende un bosque de árboles donados y sembrados en tributo a los fallecidos en el accidente aéreo del vuelo 965 de American Airlines… Este escenario natural en el medio de nuestro casco urbano es el hábitat de una variopinta fauna compuesta por zarigüeyas, ardillas, iguanas, reptiles, mariposas, peces y tortugas en torno a una apacible laguna alimentada por las aguas del río Pance; asimismo es el refugio de más de 100 especies de aves entre migrantes y residentes, siendo el caso más notorio el de las garzas blancas y otras zancudas que le dan su justo nombre a este santuario… A este pequeño paraíso vienen familias de todos lados a hacer picnics, eso sí: siguiendo y respetando las normativas para el mantenimiento de este templo de la biodiversidad. Museo La Tertulia

Esta institución es dueña de una importante colección de arte moderno colombiano y americano, muy en especial de obras gráficas y en papel, calificada por algunos como la más importante del país. Si bien su disfrute está orientado principalmente  a un público de mayor edad, el museo realiza a lo largo del año  importantes actividades dirigidas al segmento infantil a través de talleres y encuentros pedagógicos como la edición 2022 de sus “Vacaciones Creativas”: un programa de verano en el que niñas y niños entre 5 y 11 años participan en laboratorios de creación y educación artística. Puedes enterarte más al respecto visitando la página web del museo, y ya que estás acá te recomendamos la exposición itinerante “Cicatrices” de la artista Luz Lizarazo.

El Parque de los Gatos

Muy cerca al Museo la Tertulia, concretamente en la ribera contraria del río Cali, se encuentra “El Parque de los Gatos”, un homenaje de nuestra ciudad a este encantador y enigmático felino inmortalizado por el artista Hernando Tejada con su famoso “Gato del Río”. En este lindo y cuidado paseo al aire libre (cobijado por árboles frondosos y dispuesto a lo largo del afluente que bautiza a nuestra capital del Valle del Cauca), tus niños pueden retratarse con este icono de nuestra ciudad, conocer a sus “novias”, y nada lejos de allí, comer en la famosa heladería “Ventolini”, otro de esos nombres que están tatuados en la piel de nuestra Cali y que hacen parte de la infancia de todos los caleños con sus ricos gelati italianos…

A comer helados y cholados

En el acogedor y muy cultural barrio San Antonio hay un establecimiento que maneja 162 sabores de helado… Sí, leíste bien: ¡ciento sesenta y dos! Y si llevas a tus hijos a pasear por las lindas callejuelas de este sector, a visitar la Iglesia San Antonio, o a escuchar las historias de sus divertidos cuentacuentos, te sugerimos cerrar con broche de oro acercándote a este local llamado “Lengua de Mariposa”, ubicado en una acogedora esquina colonial que es perfecta para descansar y refrescarse luego de un largo día de sol. Cali Zoo

Visiting it tops our list because of all places in Cali this is a park you’ve got to pay your national duties to (and also make yourself a favor). Mio Cable Tourist Route

If you and your people are not from around here, this is one of those activities for families in Cali that, in addition to being cheap, turns into an unforgettable memory for children: to ride the Mío Cable and rise above the houses on a slow-paced thread to the top of the hillside, watching the city from the sky; contemplating life unfolding on each alley you see, seeing women hanging sheets on the roofs of their homes and children play in the streets… Moving through stations and towers while admiring this engineering marvel, as part of this perpetual linear movement of people walking in and out of your cabin on their way to anywhere. This aerial cable-car system has a route of 2.08 km that you can make in approximately 14 minutes, going through a 4-stage circuit settled within the Comuna 20: starting from the Cañaveralejo terminal and making a course between the Tierra Blanca, Lleras Camargo, and Brisas de Mayo stations, each of them displaying artistic samples made of photos, illustrations, paintings, murals, and stained glass windows around various themes such as transportation, music, nature, beliefs, and customs of our city. Cristo Rey

At the top of the Los Cristales elevation stands the “Monument to Christ The King“, one of the most representative symbols of our city and a viewpoint par excellence of the entire city. From this hill, you get to not just admire and take a selfie with this great sculpture by the Italian master Alideo Tazzioli, but also have a typical delicious snack with hot Colombian chocolate, a meal that we recommend taking when the sun goes down and the breeze cools. Although the people of Cali usually ride to this place on bike as an exercise, this hill offers nice recreational options for families such as horseback riding, souvenir shopping, canopying at El Borondo, or visiting the wonderful Andoke Butterfly Garden, a must you have got to see. And as a nice comfy closure for the day, do not miss having dinner at one of the pizza places on the side of the road back to Cali. The sight will leave you speechless.

Acuaparque de la caña

When traveling with kids, planning summer vacations in Cali, must include a visit to this water park, which is an excellent alternative for your children. The main attractions of this site are a wave pool, a relaxing slow flowing river, a children’s pool and many others, fed by a system of slides between traditional and extreme that extend the fun to adults alike. As if that were not enough, this much-loved space in the city has rides, a rowing lake, gardens, courts and tracks, which we are sure will not disappoint your little ones.

Lago de Las Garzas Ecopark

Another one of those options that cost nothing and are worth a lot in the memory of a child and family remembrances. Although small, this beautiful 4.5-hectare wetland in the south of the city includes a forest of trees donated and planted in tribute to those who died in the plane crash of American Airlines flight 965… This natural setting in the middle of our urban area is the habitat of a varied fauna composed of opossums, squirrels, iguanas, reptiles, butterflies, fish, and turtles around a peaceful, lagoon fed by the waters of the Pance River; it is also the refuge of more than 100 species of birds between migrants and residents, the most notorious case being that of the white herons and other waders that give this sanctuary its proper name… Families come from all over to make picnics at this small paradise, and yes: always following and respecting regulations for the sake of this temple of biodiversity. La Tertulia Museum

This institution owns a paramounting collection of Colombian and American modern art, especially graphic pieces and works on paper, described by some as the largest in the country. Although its enjoyment is mainly aimed at an older audience, this museum carries out important activities throughout the year for children alike, with workshops and educational meetings such as the 2022 edition of its “Creative Holidays”: a summer program in which girls and boys 5 to 11 years old get involved in artistic creation and education labs. El Parque de los Gatos

Very close to the La Tertulia Museum, specifically on the opposite bank of the Cali River, you will find “El Parque de los Gatos”, a tribute from our city to this charming and enigmatic feline immortalized by the artist Hernando Tejada with his famous “Gato del Río”. In this beautiful and well-kept outdoor walk (sheltered by leafy trees, arranged along the tributary that baptizes our capital of Valle del Cauca), your children can be photographed with this icon of our city, meet their “girlfriends“, and eat at the famous “Ventolini” ice cream parlor, another of those names that are tattooed on the skin of our Cali and that are part of the childhood of all Caleños with their delicious Italian gelati.

Eating Ice Cream y Cholados

In the welcoming and very cultural neighborhood of San Antonio there is another famous ice cream shop, this one offering 162 flavors of ice cream…Yes, you read that right: one hundred and sixty-two! And if you take your children to walk through the beautiful streets of this sector, to visit the San Antonio Church, or to listen to the stories of its funny storytellers, we suggest you end the day at this place called “Lengua de Mariposa”, located in a cozy colonial corner that is perfect to cool off after a long day in the sun. But if you want to expose your children to something even more typical, go to the Canchas Panamericanas and eat with them a delicious “cholado”, which is nothing more than our version of shaved ice flavored with syrup, fruit salad, and assorted sprinkles that can be from traditional condensed milk to grated cheese, cereals or even ice cream. Just pick any of the kiosks located in front of this sports complex to get yourself a cholado, and you will be more than satisfied.
